SPPPD

A top-down racing game. Race the AI, set time trials, slide around in freestyle, build your own tracks, or race up to three friends online. Free.

Version 2.3.0. Other downloads

The handling is built on a tyre and vehicle model, then tuned for arcade fun. Everything you see and hear is made by the game as it runs: the cars, the tracks, the engines, down to the screech of the tyres.

Each car sounds like its engine, from a rough V8 to a whining electric motor, and some are modelled on real ones.

Slide for nitro

Nitro fills on its own, and three times faster while the car is sliding. Switch it on and the scenery smears past.

Sit close behind another car for its slipstream, then pull out and slingshot past.

Race until midnight

Race in daylight, at dusk, under floodlights, or at MIDNIGHT, with no floodlights at all: just your beams and the road studs.

Four of you online

One player hosts a room, picks the track, laps and time of day, and reads out the six-letter room code. Up to three friends join with it.

The host’s track goes to everyone, custom ones too. REMATCH runs the race again once everyone asks.

The track editor: a winding circuit drawn as a line of white nodes, with the menu on the left

Build your own tracks

On a desktop, click to lay down nodes, drag them into shape, and press T to drive what you’ve made. Kerbs, barriers and the racing line are worked out for you.

A race on a phone, with a stick on the left, DRIFT and BOOST buttons on the right, and horn, reset and pause at the top

Play on your phone

A stick under your left thumb, DRIFT and BOOST on the right. The car accelerates by itself unless you turn Auto Gas off.

Good to know

Fences bite
A hard hit wrecks the car, which costs you over a second and all your speed. Glancing off one is fine.
Three ways to handle
Arcade is the default, with big grip and a held drift on the handbrake. Sport adds realistic grip with driver aids, and Sim has no aids at all.
Pace notes
The top of the screen shows the next corner, how tight it is, from 1 for a hairpin to 4 for a fast kink, and when to brake.
Your own music
In freestyle, drop MP3, OGG, FLAC or WAV files on the window and the radio plays them.
Pads and keys
Xbox and PlayStation pads work, with vibration, and so does the keyboard.

What’s new in 2.3.0

Released 2 November 2026.

Added

  • Fence crashes. A hit that costs a car 15 m/s of speed wrecks it. You lose control for 1.2 s, then restart stopped on the racing line where you hit, ghosted for 2.5 s, and the lap stops counting as clean. Every car has the same limit, however heavy it is. Driving flat out and bouncing off the fences no longer pays.

Changed

  • The default online server is now spppd.vanillaiice.xyz, with no port to type. Saves holding the old address move to it, and a server you chose yourself stays.
  • Each car has its own nitro sound.

Online

  • Protocol 3. A car that has just been reset is now a ghost on everyone’s screen, not only its own. Everyone in a room needs this version.

Other cars can’t wreck you, even by shoving you into a fence. Glancing off a fence still only bounces.

Every version’s changes
